This work begins with a question, how much discomfort are we willing to endure, for the beauty in wearing jewellery? Through the repeated act of layering it and removing the latex, I've put myself to the unfamiliar sensation and discomfort a ring imposes on skin and deliberately dulled that sensation. This piece is what that repetition leaves behind. The desensitised hand, no longer capable of touching or being touched, is cast into a fixed form and placed where a face would sit in a portrait. What was once a trace of sensation and compulsion is inverted into something protected. Do Not Touch
